Beloved in Christ,
Today, the Church rejoices and is illumined with the radiant light of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, for on this day we celebrate the Transfiguration, when our Savior took Peter, James, and John up on the high mountain, and there was transfigured before them. His face shone as the sun, and His garments became dazzling white, whiter than any earthly bleach could make. And behold! Moses and Elijah appeared, conversing with Him, testifying that the Law and the Prophets point to Christ, the fulfillment of all things.
O faithful, consider the mystery revealed to the disciples. For just as the mountain lifted them above the ordinary concerns of life, so too the Transfiguration lifts our hearts above the shadows of the world. In Christ, the light of unapproachable glory shines even into the darkness of our human condition. This is the light which no sorrow can dim, no sin can obscure.
Saint Peter, seeing this wonder, wished to remain there, to dwell in the light, erecting booths of human comfort. Yet the voice of the Father came from the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” Not dwell in the mountain of the vision, but listen to Christ, walk in His ways, and carry the divine light into the valleys of this world. The glory of God is not merely to be admired; it is to be embraced and manifested in our lives.
O beloved, let us remember: the Transfiguration is not only a historical event, but a promise to each of us. We are called to be transfigured in heart and mind, to allow Christ to shine through us, illuminating the darkness of fear, despair, and sin. When we pray, when we love, when we serve, the uncreated light of God touches our souls, preparing us for the eternal Kingdom, where no shadow of corruption can enter.
Therefore, let us ascend the mountain in spirit: through fasting, through repentance, through prayer, through acts of mercy. Let us behold Christ in the beauty of holiness, and, strengthened by His grace, descend into the world, bearing the light of His love to all. Just as Moses and Elijah spoke with Christ, so may our souls commune with Him daily, hearing His words of life and obeying them faithfully.
Rejoice, O faithful! The light shines upon us today, not as a fleeting brilliance, but as a foretaste of the eternal Kingdom. Let us open our hearts to the divine radiance, that we too may be transformed in mind and spirit, and, standing with the angels, may cry: “Glory to You, O Christ our God, the Light of the world, the splendor of the Father, and the hope of all creation!”
