Beloved in Christ,
Today, the Church exults in the memory of the blessed Saint Moses Murin of Abyssinia, a man adorned not with the riches of this world, but with the riches of virtue, wisdom, and steadfast faith. In him, we see the power of God to illumine even the darkest corners of the human heart, for he walked in the light of Christ and turned the eyes of many toward salvation.
The holy Scripture tells us, “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon” (Psalm 91:12). Saint Moses was such a tree, planted in the soil of humility and watered by the streams of prayer and obedience. Though he dwelt in a distant land, his life bears witness to the universality of God’s grace, which reaches beyond borders and tongues.
Saint Moses teaches us that sanctity is not measured by wealth or honor, but by the purity of one’s heart and the constancy of one’s devotion. He endured trials with patient courage, and in his ascetic struggle, he found the companionship of angels and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Through fasting, prayer, and ceaseless care for the needy, he became a living icon of Christ, reflecting His mercy and wisdom to all who sought him.
In our own lives, we are called to imitate his example. How often do we allow the cares of this world to draw us away from God? How often do we neglect to comfort the suffering, to speak a word of encouragement, or to lift a fallen brother or sister? Saint Moses reminds us that the path to holiness is simple, yet exacting: love God above all, and love your neighbor as yourself. In this love, the soul becomes a temple, a sanctuary where Christ Himself may dwell.
Let us, therefore, honor his memory not only with words, but with deeds. Let us fast, pray, and give alms, seeking the glory of God, not our own. Let us imitate his unwavering faith in the face of adversity, that in all trials we may bear the image of Christ as he did. And let us call upon him in our struggles, that through his prayers we may be strengthened and purified, walking in righteousness all the days of our life.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of the Father, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
