Beloved in Christ,
Today, the Church shines forth with a radiant light, for we celebrate the holy Archangel Uriel, the bearer of God’s wisdom and illumination. As the Scriptures teach us, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6). Uriel, whose name means “Light of God,” guides the hearts of the faithful toward divine truth, shining a lamp in the darkness of our souls.
In the councils of heaven, the Archangel Uriel stands before the throne of the Most High, a minister of God’s counsel, a protector of the faithful, and a teacher of holy discernment. He brings revelation to those who seek to understand God’s inscrutable mysteries, and he awakens the mind to the beauty of God’s order in creation. Just as he appeared to the righteous in visions and dreams, so too he comes to illumine our path, should we open the eyes of our hearts.
O faithful, how often are our souls clouded with confusion, fear, or doubt! How often do we stumble in the darkness of our own thoughts and passions! Yet Uriel stands as a steadfast guide, a beacon of God’s truth. When the Prophet Ezra sought wisdom, the angel of God came to instruct him; when the children of men faced calamity, divine light shone forth to reveal the hidden way. In this same manner, the Archangel Uriel illumines our conscience, pointing us toward repentance, courage, and holy understanding.
Let us then invoke him with faith, saying:
“O holy Archangel Uriel, light of the eternal God, guide our hearts to wisdom, strengthen our understanding of His will, and protect us from the darkness of sin. Enlighten our minds, that we may discern His path and glorify Him in all things.”
Beloved, the celebration of Uriel is not merely the honoring of a celestial being, but a reminder of the grace granted to us by the Most High. Just as the angel’s light dispelled darkness in times past, so too does God send His angels to guide us in our daily struggles. Let us walk in the light of Christ, guided by the wisdom of His heavenly messenger, and let us be ever vigilant, praying that our thoughts, words, and deeds reflect the glory of God.
May the holy Archangel Uriel, the light of God, stand before our hearts and lead us to salvation, through the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, to Whom belongs glory, honor, and worship, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages.
Amen.
